IS IT OK TO SKIP A WORKOUT?

Did you work out today?  Even the most committed of us have “off” days, but when is it actually okay to skip a workout? These are my ‘go to’ rules.

  1. You’re sick.  As a general rule if your illness if above the neck (runny nose, head ache) you can work out.  If it’s below the neck (stomach pain, body aches, trouble breathing) skip it!
  2. You’re injured.  You don’t want to risk making the problem worse- check with your doctor.
  3. You just had surgery or had a baby (ladies, need I say more?).  But seriously, give your body time to rest and recover, and talk to your doctor about when it’s safe to start your routine again.
  4. You just completed a marathon, competition or other athletic event.  Don’t feel guilty giving your body a break- these events are physically challenging.

Sometimes, we need to slow down, listen to our bodies and give ourselves permission to skip that workout.

Yeah, I say this and will also be the first to admit that I stink at following these rules. But, I am a work in progress. I am always trying to grow and learn.

My Red-Headed Hottie…

My red-headed hottie is going to tackle 100 workouts with me.   

He’s been by my side for every single one of the 100lbs I’ve lost to date.

He continues to cheer me on….especially as I heal from surgery. I feel like I’m starting from that 250lb point, but he reminds me that Carol doesn’t exist any more.

So my chin is up. My game face is on. My red-headed hottie is by my side and TOGETHER we are going ALL IN #100.

Anyway, it’s going to be tons of fun with a DJ, great variety of workout styles and there are plenty of rest days. Best part, they are only 20-30 minutes a day. Wake up, get your workout done and go about your day. BAM! I’m ready.

Conquer, Transform and Renew!

Another new year! Another opportunity for a clean slate to conquer, transform and renew yourself. The gyms will be packed for a few weeks as people hop back on the resolution train. I’m so glad I stick to my programs year rounds. Do you?

I know I’m not perfect. I take a few days off here and there, but for the most part, I’m pretty consistent. My accountability groups help me stay focused. I’d be lost with out them.

Shredding for the Wedding

Well it’s been a hot minute since I’ve been around. Life gets so busy – not that that should be an excuse. So I’m back and intend to share some daily tidbits in hopes I can encourage you along while navigating my days.

My baby girl is getting married in 11 days!!!! I’m focused and determined to be healthier, stronger and look amazing in my dress for the big occassion. Vain, yup, but let’s be honest, we want to look AMAZING!  Plus, I’m so excited to celebrate this special day with her and I want to look my best for her too.

It’s not easy for me to stay focused on nutrition- it’s no secret that I love my pizza. Where are my pizza junkies at? What’s your favorite? Just plain jane cheese for me.  Anyway. I can stick to my exercises, and usually score all my water but man, I can pack away the pizza. Oh and bread!

Since taking on my 4 day lift and hiit program, my recover shake and daily shake are helping me stay on target with eating. I’m sure I’m going to hit my goal!

My next accountability group is kicking off on August 6th. I’d love for you to join the fun and help me not eat so much pizza 😀

On the go…

I’ve been on the go. I can’t wait to share with you about the fun I had in Chicago. SO MUCH FOOD. SO MUCH FUN. BRAIN OVERLOAD. But today, I’m just to excited and need to share the here and now!!!!

I just found out that Shaun T is coming out with a new workout program and I’m going to get my hands on that puppy hot off the press no waiting. EEEEK.shaun t

I took on  Cize,  T-25 and my all time fave, Insanity Max:30. I’ve had amazing results and he keeps it fun, so how can I not be excited?! If you’ve done his programs, you know what I mean.

I’ve been living a healthier lifestyle and loving the results. I’m enjoying life. Not every day is perfect but when you eat right and score those daily workouts, you just flat out live happy.

Excuses, excuses.

Well. I had all the excuses running through my head this morning. Ever let those excuses win? They almost did, but I’m competitive and couldn’t let that happen.

Here were my top 3⃣ excuses this morning:

🖓I have 0⃣ energy
🖓I’m too sore from yesterday’s workout
🖓I’ll be teaching fitness classes tonight so why bother

Well too bad 🐥. Get off your duff and get moving. Challenge those muscles and work through the soreness. That’s how you get stronger. So what if you are teaching tonight. That workout is for them, not you. Your personal workouts matter. Getting that sweat on gives you energy. Quit making excuses and get it done…..so I did. And, guess what?

I’m not sore anymore. I worked on me so class will be all about them. Oh, now I’m zipping around the house feeling energized for the day. excuses

Fit Word Fun

New month = new challenge in my wellness group.  We had so much fun with our Fit Move of the Day last month. This time we are taking on a Fit Word of the Day mini workout.    Heck yeah! We can score a fun mini work out in under ten minutes. I’ll post a word a day and we’ll match the letters up to a preassigned exercise. Can’t wait to get started in the morning.

Spontaneous Picking!

I’m not usually good about deviating from my list. Every once in awhile, it just can’t be helped. Today was one of those days. I was zipping along to tackle my list before noon and I notice 2 cars in the parking lot at the strawberry fields. I’ve been waiting for them to open and BOOM, they were open. Naturally, I had to take advantage of the situation. This chick turned the car around at the next light and headed back to get in on that action. It was early and the weather was just perfect for picking.

They were perfectly sweet and just the right size and ripeness I enjoy. I loaded up my bucket with my fresh picks and got right back to my list. I got to enjoy the smell of fresh strawberries while attending to the rest of my errands. I was tempted to nibble on them but managed to stay distracted long enough to get them home safe and sound. Now I have some in the fridge and frozen to keep me happy for awhile.

I love this time of year! So much fun stuff to do in the spring weather.  Have you been strawberry picking yet? IMG_20170329_163039_275000

Are you the boss of you.

Don’t you just love that feeling you get when you know you’ve helped someone? I think that is my favorite part of being an online coach. I help people find the tools they need to be successful, I encourage them to believe in themselves and to keep trying. I am making great friends along the way and helping other people build their own businesses, too.

Being my own boss gives me the flexibility I need to work at the Pregnancy Resource Center, volunteer at my church and spend time with family and friends.  Now that is cool. All the things I love and I still get to run my own biz. #winning

Fit Minute Friday Workout

I love being reminded that each minute brings us the opportunity to make a healthy choice. In one minute YOU can do anything. Put those healthy minutes together and you are making positive changes that make a difference . With that in mind, I’ve decided to go live on my Facebook page with a “fit move of the day”.
